Why engagement photos?

I get it. You’re looking at spending some serious money on your wedding. Can you afford to get engagement photos? I get asked a lot why couples should get engagement photos. There are at least five reasons why engagement photos are a great investment, both for you as a couple as well as in preparation for your wedding.

01 Get to know your photographer

You will likely spend more time with your photographer than anyone else on your wedding day. I know, that sounds crazy, but it’s true. It is so important to vibe well with them! This is more than a business transaction — it’s a friendship and a partnership. The best way to find out if we’re a good fit is booking an engagement session. The pressure is off, there’s time to get to know each other without the stress of the wedding, and it’s a minor investment compared to the cost of a whole day of wedding photography. After the engagement shoot and your wedding comes around, it’ll be like a friend is photographing your wedding.

If you’re not sure who to hire for your wedding, you might even consider booking a few engagement sessions to test the vibe with other photographers to see who you love most — plus, having more photos is never a bad thing!

02 Make it a date!

In this season of planning your wedding, every chance you get with your fiancé(e) you're likely planning. An engagement session is also an opportunity to take a break and spend time with your partner without the pressure. During the shoot you get to kiss a bunch, snuggle, and stare at each other a lot! Plus, you'll get to joke around, have fun, and just be. Your engagement shoot can feel kind of like a date, and be F-U-N. I often suggest considering going out for a nice dinner afterward!

03 Get comfy in front of the camera

Most people haven’t spent much time in front of a camera. So, to get comfy with it and get you ready for your big day, it’s really helpful to have some experience so photos aren’t an added stressor to your day. Instead,

04 Celebrate a milestone!

You’ve been together for how ever long, and soon you’ll be married for years after! Being engaged is only a short chapter in your life together. It’s worth celebrating! All stages in your relationship should be remembered, and the easiest way to do that is with photos!

05 Save-the-date postcards

Finally, your engagement photos are great for save-the-date postcards, invitations, guest book, and even table decorations for your big day. A popular idea is to have one of your engagement photos blow up and framed with a large thick matte on it for guests to sign in lieu of a guest book — guests sign right on the matte! After the wedding, hang it on a wall in your home and you have a beautiful keepsake to remember all your friends and family who joined you to celebrate your love.

And those are just to name a few reasons why engagement photos are a good investment. I’d love a chance to talk with you about your engagement shoot, even if it’s a secret!
